Backstage, Jinki was a bundle of nerves.
It wasn’t because of the audience size—they’d performed for audiences fifty times bigger than this one, and by now he was well over any stage fright he had as a child—and it wasn’t because of their performance—they’d practiced for hours and hours, late into the night and into the early mornings to be sure their moves were sharp and their voices were flawless. No, Jinki was nervous for a reason totally unrelated to the performance: his family was in the crowd.
It was the first time they had been to one of his performances since he debuted, and although they repeatedly told him how proud they were of him, he was childishly certain that any mess-up he made today would result in them disowning him. To avoid any unwanted sangtae, Jinki had practiced walking onto and off the stage, and he had tightened his shoe laces so much he was sure his toes were blue.
Finally the MCs announced “And now, Asia’s rising sensation, SHINee!!” and he and his team ran out to thunderous applause. He spotted his family in the front section; dad with the video camera pointed at him, mum starting to scream then catching herself and waving enthusiastically instead, younger sister trying hard to seem uninterested while softly smiling. The music started and Jinki forgot all about his nerves as he threw himself into the rhythm. Applause drowned out the last of the song. He noticed his parents on their feet with everyone else, mum screaming unabashedly. He could just imagine them bragging to everyone around them, “The one on the left, that’s my son!”
Sunbaes and hoobaes came up to them in the waiting area to congratulate them, and though he smiled and nodded and thanked them politely, inside there was only one congratulation Jinki would accept. Finally his mobile buzzed and he pulled it out anxiously. It was a text from his sister.
(1/2) Mum and Dad say Good job. And a bunch of other stuff but they were kind of screaming so I’m not sure
(2/2) what all it was. Way to not fall on your face. xD
His face couldn’t contain his smile. In her own way, even his sister was proud of him, and that made him extra extra happy. He started to text back his thanks when his phone buzzed again.
P.S. Tell Minho-oppa his hair looked HOT! ^.^
Jinki’s face turned to a childish pout. ‘That’s it’, he decided. ‘I’m locking her in a tower until she’s too old to think about guys.’
